Cradled along the windswept South Coast of NSW, this residence was conceived as a quiet ode to simplicity, imperfection, and elemental presence. The vision was clear: a grounded, minimalist dwelling that borrowed from Scandinavian restraint, coastal rhythm, country weathering and the softened, storied patina of wabi-sabi.

The Formery was engaged to shape a cohesive aesthetic language from the ground up — balancing texture, tactility, and temporal beauty. Scope of works spanned concept development, material curatorship, façade detailing, joinery briefing, spatial planning, finish selection and styling, with a heavy emphasis on adaptability within a fluctuating budget. Stone, grain, and raw edge materials were explored to echo the landscape — with preferences for burnished concrete, roughcast render, sandstone cladding, and timber with silvery undertones providing a sense of overarching tactility and depth. Subtle contrasts were drawn through bubble-textured glass, hand-trowelled microcement, and vintage fittings, culminating in spaces that feel both serene and sensorial. While organic linens, hand spun wool and flaxen reed soft coverings inside provide warmth and a sense of a time-worn origin. 

The result is a home that breathes — quietly sophisticated, rich in nuance, and uncompromisingly personal.
